Bhubaneswar: The impressive performance by the female athletes helped Odisha finish at the 8th position in the 55th National Inter-State Senior Athletic Championship that concluded at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai on Monday.
Powered by the two gold medals won by sprinter Srabani Nanda in 200 meters race and Purnima Hembram along with the third coming from women 4×100 relay team, Odisha finished the Championship with three gold, two silver, one bronze medal. The gold winning relay team comprised Srabani Nanda, Purnima Hembram, Jauna Murmu and Dutee Chand.
The two silver medals for Odisha came from Sarita Singh in woman hammer throw and the lone male member in the Odisha team for the championship Amiya Kumar Mallick in men`s 100 meters race. The only bronze medal was by sprinter Dutee Chand in women 100 meter sprint.
There were couple of missed chances also as Srabani was disqualified in the heats due to technical foul start and Jauna Murmu did not finish the race after reaching the final in women`s 400 meters.
