WCD Ministry body lays emphasis on training of Anganwadi workers

The Ministry proposes to build fifty thousand anganwadis during the next year with the help of Ministry of Rural Development and the Panchayats. Under the National Nutrition Mission, anganwadis will be trained properly and given more facilities to discharge their duties.

New Delhi: The Consultative Committee of Parliament attached to the Ministry of Women and Child Development today urged the Government for increased emphasis on training of Anganwadi workers across the country. The members of the Committee suggested that the Anganwadi workers should be trained fully in the subject of Nutrition and proper accommodation should be made available to run the anganwadis, along with increasing their honorarium.

Responding to this suggestions, Union Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi informed that under the National Nutrition Mission, anganwadis will be trained properly and given more facilities to discharge their duties. The ministry officials also explained the new incentive scheme for Anganwadi workers which is being included in the Nutrition Mission.

One of the members of the committee also suggested that camps should be held at grassroots level which will include men for their involvement in schemes and programmes for women welfare and empowerment. They also suggested that the anganwadi and Asha workers should be involved fully in the Beti Bachao and Beti Padhao Scheme since they have the data on pregnancies in their areas.
