Bhubaneswar: Ananya Sritam Nanda, the class IX student from Bhubaneswar created history on Sunday as she won the coveted title of Indian Idol Junior 2. The 14 year old student of DAV Public School Pokhariput in Bhubaneswar made a mark with her sweet voice and impressed the jury as well as the audience with her versatile singing.
In the grand finale of this popular TV music reality show of Sony TV, Ananya outsmarted 15 year old Nityashree Venkatraman , and 13 years old Naheed Afreen, with her mesmerizing singing performance. Earlier legendary actor Anil Kapoor praising her performance congratulated her parents stating that they have a true diamond in the form of daughter.
Along with the coveted trophy Ananya won a contract worth Rs. 10 lakhs from Sony TV. Congratulation messages started pouring in for Ananya from all quarters. Starting from Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, sand art maestro Padmashree Sudarsan Pattnaik, senior bureaucrat Arvind Padhee , congratulatory messages flooded for the little music sensation from people of all walks of life. Social media was abuzz with such messages.
It may be noted here that Ananya was eliminated in the first round of theatres last year in the first session of Indian Idol Junior. A recognized child artist with All India Radio since 2013, Ananya has got several awards from various foundations in Odisha including the special jury award in Akshaya Mohanty Foundation award ceremony, which she received from Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in 2007.
It may be noted here that several performers from Odisha made it big in national reality TV arena in recent years and the list goes long, with the beginning done by Prince Dance Group in India’s Got Talent I). Among Odia girls Rajasmita Kar excelled in Dance India Dance (DID) completion while Sohini Mishra from Cuttack made a mark nationally on Indian Idol stage. Recently Rituraj Mohanty won many hearts in India’s Raw Star hosted by rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh.
