Bhubaneswar: The entire nation has come together to wish all success and glory to the biggest ever Indian Olympics contingent on the eve of the commencement ceremony of Olympics games at Rio De Janerio this week.
Odisha’s delight has gone up manifold as for the first time six of its athletes will be participating in an Olympic Game. While sprinter Dutee Chand made it to Rio Olympics in 100 meters breaking national record, her compatriot Srabani Nanda won the ticket for Rio in 200 meters sprint. Both will also be participating in the 4×100 meters relay race at 2016 Olympics in Rio De Janerio, Brazil.
Four women hockey players from Odisha Deep Grace Ekka, Namita Tappo, Lilima Minz and Sunita Lakra are also part of the Indian Women’s Hockey team at #Rio2016 .
While the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has extended his best wishes to all these six athletes for #Olympics2016 and directed state PSU Odisha Mining Corporation to pay a cash reward of Rs. 10 lacs each, good wishes are also pouring in from all quarters for the Olympians. Dutee has also been promised a gift of a Mahindra XUV on her return from Olympics by industrialist Anand Mahindra. Indian Railways has also congratulated all the Rio bound athletes employed with Indian Railways which includes Dutee Chand and the four Odia women hockey players.
International Sand Artist Sudarsan Pattnaik extended his best wishes to the athletes through his impressive sand sculpture on Puri sea beach. Union Minister of State (I/ C) for Youth Affairs & Sports Shri Vijay Goel here today inaugurated ‘Wall of Wishes’ at India Gate Lawns, Near Hyderabad House in the gracious presence of renowned Boxer and Olympian Ms Mary C. Kom to celebrate the Olympic mood in the country. He also launched Digital Campaign for general public to wish Indian Olympic Contingent their best for the Rio Games. This comes after the RUN FOR RIO organized by the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs to connect public at large, especially children and youth, with the Olympic spirit and power of sports. This year India is sending its largest ever contingent to participate in the Rio Games 20 thousand school children and youth had participated in the 5 Km run on July 31 after the Prime Minister flagged it off at National Stadium to demonstrate to RIO bound Indian athletes that the whole country is proud of them and wishes them all the best in the forthcoming competitions.
