Cuttack: East Coast Railway (ECoRly) emerged champions in the Odisha Women’s League 2015 organised by the Football Association of Odisha (FAO) pipping Government Sports Hostel by 1-0 goals in a hard-fought final at the Bidanasi ground in the city on Thursday. Pratima Minz scored the only goal from East Coast Railways in the 48th minute of the final match.
The champion team ECoRly won the trophy and a cash prize of Rs 25,000 while the runner-up Government Sports Hostel received a cash prize of Rs 15,000.
Earlier in the semifinals ECoRly thrashed Mangala Club by 6-0 goals to reach the finals. Supriya Routray and Subhadra Sahoo scored two goals each while Jhilli Munda and Subhaprava Rout scored one each in this semifinal. In the other semifinal Government Sports Hostel defeated Odisha Police by 3-0 goals in the penalty shoot out as both the teams failed to score any goals in the regular match time. Sasmita Behera, Srijan Tamang and Jabamani Tudu scored for Sports Hostel in the penalty shoot out.
This year, a total of eight teams participated in the Odisha Women’s League 2015 that started from 5th July. In the league-cum-knockout format tournament, the teams played league matches after being divided into two groups wherein the top two teams from each group qualified for the semifinals.
The teams included Odisha Police, Sunshine Club, Radha Gobinda Club, Mangala Club, Sunrise Club, Chand Club, East Coast Railways and Sports Hostel Odisha. The league could not be conducted in 2014 and resumed from this year.
