Top four finishers Smaraki, Rutumbara, Akankhya and Anoushkaa qualify for 42nd National Women Challenger Championship in Maharashtra in July
Bhubaneswar: Considered a rising star in the thriving women chess arena in Odisha, Smaraki Mohanty bagged yet another state championship trophy with her thumping win in the three-day Nalinikanta Mohanty Memorial FIDE Rating State Women Chess Championship held at DS Law College at Kendrapada. The 17 year old won all her six games to remain on top and clinch the title for the third time in last five years. Rutumbara Bidhar, another promising women chess star from Bhubaneswar became the runner up with 5 points. The top four finishers of the tournament which include budding women chess players Akankhya Kabi and Anoushkaa Mohanty have qualified to represent Odisha in the 42nd National Women Challenger Championship slated to be held in Maharashtra from 2nd to 11th of next month.
In the Odisha State sub-junior chess championship held at the same venue Rutumbara Bidhar clinched the title while the runner-up trophy went to Sreejita Khuntia. Both of them qualified for the Sub-junior National Chess Championship, slated to be held at Jammu from September 21 to 29 this year.
